When you start to see everyday items as labels for your plants you have graduated to the level of gardener.
In my tiny little garden I use mainly wooden sticks as they will eaily decompose. Iceblock sticks, wooden/bamboo spoons & forks, and wooden toothbrushes make great labels.
If your hardware store lets you have them the paint stirrers also make great labels.
If they survive the season, you can use them again, just rub the name off them with sand paper and you can use them again. Alternatively break them up and throw them in the compost.
